Are oaks the ultimate business mentors? Five lessons from ancient trees.

Eric Singer's recent post on LinkedIn really got my creative juices going.
This is what I commented to his inspiring post:

OK, now you've got me going! What do you think of this.

Parallels between the decades-old trees and small businesses:

I recently moved to Northampton, and what I love most, especially now that spring is here, is the HUGE trees that I see everywhere (I moved here from the high desert of New Mexico).

1.    Slow growth creates extraordinary strength - businesses that grow steadily build stronger foundations than those rushing to expand.

2.    Deep roots before tall branches - successful businesses prioritize solid fundamentals before flashy market presence.

3.    Weathering storms - businesses built with patience survive economic downturns that bankrupt flashier competitors.

4.    Value increases over time - like aged oaks, businesses become most valuable after years of consistent growth.

5.    Creating an ecosystem - established businesses become hubs supporting employees, suppliers, and communities in an expanding web of interdependence.

Maybe the most profound business mentors aren't in boardrooms or bestsellers, but standing silently in our parks, yards and forests—teaching us that true success comes from patience, deep roots, and creating value that outlasts us.
